Parents in Mind

Parents in Mind peer support – mothers, birthing parents, dads & partners

Connecting with others who have experienced similar – 1 to 1, or in a group - can make a huge difference.

NCT’s Parents in Mind project provides safe, sensitive, impactful perinatal mental health peer support, delivered by local parent volunteers. Support is available to expectant parents or those with a child under the age of two who may be feeling low, isolated, anxious or overwhelmed with no formal diagnosis required.

Peer supporters have lived experience of the challenges early parenthood can have and are passionate about making sure new parents don’t feel alone. Their volunteers undertake training to provide a friendly listening ear, in one to one and group settings, online and face-to-face.

What support is available?

Support is provided across a range of Children’s Centres, Family Hubs, Community Centres, outdoor spaces and also online via Zoom and WhatsApp (both group and 1-1). Support is tailored to parents preference, and moves gently, but with focus: normalising the difficulties of caring for a baby, decreasing isolation, and empowering parents with resources and information.

Project staff in Lauren, Kelly & Andy are the first point of contact for all enquires – they are at the end of the phone for those interested in support and are ready to liaise with any of our brilliant local partner organisations to make sure care is ‘joined up’ for clients.

They are not health care professionals, therapist or advisors but can give you a space to be filter free and judgement free with the true feelings of parenthood to help you value and prioritise your wellbeing, reduce stigma around mental health issues, normalise difficult parenting experiences, build confidence & social connections, empower with info on other helpful services/signposting and overall support a more fulfilling relationship with your baby.
